If there was ever such thing as a perfect surprise lakeside proposal… this would be it.
He had planned the whole thing to a ‘T’. She knew it was coming at some point… I mean, they had already picked out her ring together. But what she didn’t know was when… or how… or where! And THAT is what made Keron’s plan so perfect.
Becca would be travelling to Arizona to visit her best friend. It was going to be a girl’s weekend. They would be hiking and adventuring. (Except the adventure wasn’t just for the girls.) They would shop for a dress to wear on their night out. (Except that dress was for an even more special occasion.) They would go on a sunset boat cruise. (Except there was no boat. And no cruise.) She never suspected for one single minute that Keron would show up there. 2000 miles from home, on that dock, in the middle of a lake outside of Phoenix, with photos and flower petals and music and champagne. And the most beautiful diamond solitaire in a Tiffany setting you ever did see. (Yes, he even got the ring setting right!)
I was so excited when he told me their story and asked me for help with the planning, executing, and of course… photographing. He was coming all the way from Illinois after all, and I couldn’t wait to help make their dream a reality. He had already been online searching… and searching…. and searching… for ideas, locations, suggestions and tips.
It’s nerve wracking enough just thinking about the whole ‘down-on-one-knee’ thing, asking the love of your life those four little words…. Will you marry me? Let alone trying to coordinate it all from across the country so that everything goes smoothly, AND not tip her off so she figures it out ahead of time!! He had done a REALLY good job. I just helped put the finishing touches on the plan.
And I was even more excited when I met these two amazing souls and had the opportunity to document the beginning of their amazing Arizona adventure. After she said YES!, Becca, Keron and I spent some time exploring the area around Saguaro Lake and the Salt River, along with her friend Kimmi (who BTW, was an incredible accomplice, and SUPER helpful flower petal tosser! Thanks Kimmi!).
Having two people in front of my lens who are so sweet, so joyful, so fun, so ready for anything, and so loving toward each other (just LOOK at the way he adores her!) is this photographers dream!! I didn’t want the night to end. We kept shooting until there was literally no speck of sunlight left. It was a magical day that could not have been more perfect. Much like Keron’s plan. And much like the love that Becca and Keron share. I smiled ear to ear the whole way home. And I’m pretty sure they did too.
Becca and Keron, thank you so much for allowing me the honor and trusting in me to capture this incredible moment in your lives. I am so incredibly happy for you two, and I can. not. wait to see what you plan for your wedding! I know your lives together will be filled with many more perfect, surprising, adventurous plans!! 💕
